Duck Soup (1933)

Starring the Marx brothers, Margaret Dumont, Louis Calhern

Rufus T. Firefly is made leader of Freedonia on the recommendation of Mrs Teasdale. But he commits a series of blunders that lead to war with neighbouring country Sylvania.
Duck soup, the title a slang expression meaning “easily accomplished”, is probably the best film made by the famous Marx brothers, Groucho, Chico, Harpo and Zeppo.
The level of comedy in Ducky Soup, its unity and intensity, are surely largely thanks to McCarey, who stripped a love plot and various songs from the script, developed the mirror scene (perhaps the most famous scene of the Marx brothers’ works), came up with the sequence leading up to it and possibly others.”
J.P. Coursodon and B. Tavernier, 50 ans de cinéma américain.
