M*A*S*H (1970)

Starring Donald Sutherland, Eliott Gould, Tom Skerritt, Robert Duvall, Sally Kellerman

In autumn 1951, two new surgeons are posted to the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH): Captain “Hawkeye” Pierce (Donald Sutherland) and “Duke” Forrest (Tom Skerritt). From the moment they arrive, they appear to be rebels, womanisers and generally unruly, flouting the rules at every opportunity. However, it soon becomes clear that they are highly skilled. The film tells of their adventures, often arising out of their provocative attitude towards authority.
“MASH is a wonderful comedy: erratic, harsh and amusing. A burlesque satire of military behaviour, but with traits of an Arthurian legend. The film pokes fun in a macabre way, but is still noble, romantic […] It is the best US war comedy since the coming of sound.
Pauline Kael, The New Yorker.
